Re: Turnigy 9x comatose (not quite dead) after mods
Well, it's done. First I did the mods on the DHT module, then added the MOSI/MISO lines from the programming port up to the RX/TX pins on the DHT via a 4-pin header plug. Everything seems to light up and function as it should on the 9x, although I confess to not having performed any actual function ...

Re: Turnigy 9x comatose (not quite dead) after mods
After a bit more research I think I'm going to simply duplicate RCHacker's telemetry mod , scroll down to Step 2 ... cut a couple traces on the DHT board, install a couple resistors and parallel MISO/MOSI in a twisted pair that simply plug into the DHT's telemetry socket. I can attach those wires di...

Re: Turnigy 9x comatose (not quite dead) after mods
it is.. wait until you want voice, and rotary encoder, and replace the processor ;) I can only imagine. I've got a Taranis and am not that excited about the voice thus far, however I suspect that all will change once I actually get the hang of having it do what it can really do. What's th...

Re: Turnigy 9x comatose (not quite dead) after mods
Yippeee!!! :D :D Phase one is done!!! The processor's MOSI & MISO traces are cut and the teeny pieces of AWG30 have rerouted the switches to pins 41 & 42. The 9x now powers up without warnings (unless I have the switches actuated) and jumps straight to the first model screen. http://www.lanc...

Re: Turnigy 9x comatose (not quite dead) after mods
I mentioned in the first post that the DHT module I installed included telemetry, but you're right, Kilrah, I never actually mentioned that I wanted to use it. Anyway, this is all making a bit more sense now, so this evening's project will include the mod shown above for the switches to work and the...

Re: Turnigy 9x comatose (not quite dead) after mods
Interesting... but I have the telemetry-capable FrSky DHT module installed in the radio. Is there something else in that maze of selections under "preferences" that would address this issue while still allowing me to setup the radio with the FrSky module? In the meantime I'll hop over to t...

Re: Turnigy 9x comatose (not quite dead) after mods
Hi guys, I just wanted to say thanx again for all the help and to let you know that I finally got the backlight issue sorted. Back when this happened I ordered another backlight module to use as a donor for the failed connector unit and waited and waited for it to be delivered, but it never showed u...

Re: Turnigy 9x comatose (not quite dead) after mods
I just couldn't' leave it alone. Got it back up & running, but have a bit of work to do to feel good about what it's going to look like inside. Have several wires that need to be replaced and have ordered another backlight kit to replace the one with the problem. At least it's not a doorstop. Th...

Re: Turnigy 9x comatose (not quite dead) after mods
Boy, you guys are not going to believe this one.... got home from work and went straight to the bench. Opened up the 9x, connected the plug that goes to the LCD back into the main board where it came from originally, thereby removing the backlight board from the circuit. Plugged in that main cable t...

Re: Turnigy 9x comatose (not quite dead) after mods
Yeah, I agree.... bypassing the HK BL board seems like a great first step and likely the fastest path to isolating the issue. That'll be the first thing I do when I get home this evening. I'll let you know what happens, hopefully it will be a happy post. Thanks so much for all the input... you guys ...

Re: Turnigy 9x comatose (not quite dead) after mods
Hey guys, thanx so much for the very speedy replies and suggestions. Thanx, especially, for the schematic... that should make things much easier. To answer your questions (in no particular order), yep, I'm comfy w/ schematics and have an electronics lab (meters, scopes, etc, etc) to support my other...

Turnigy 9x comatose (not quite dead) after mods
I've got a frustrating situation with my freshly modded Turnigy 9x and hope someone might point me in a direction. Here's the list of what I've done: Replaced the 8xAA battery pack with a Turnigy 3S (11.1v) 2650mah 1C Lipo "transmitter pack". Installed the HK backlight w/ the BS170 mosfet,...
