OK, I've done it. Easy when you know that you have to connect the transmitter to the USB port with it switched OFF. Never seems to be easy to remember everything, especially when it's a once every 2 years job!

Updating firmware on Horus X10
I'm running OpenTX v2.2 on my Horus X10 but would like to update to v2.3. It seems the only way is via Companion. I have version 2.3 which reads models from my Horus without trouble but when I try to read the firmware (to back it up) I get a message "Your radio does not seem connected to USB or...

Horus X10 battery charging
I took delivery of a new X10 last week and I've transferred all my X9D models successfully after installing OpenTX. I notice that the supplied mains charger outputs 15v dc @ 1 amp. After a self inflicted disaster charging my X9D from an 'intelligent' charger when I first bought it just after they we...

Re: S6R PC configuration STK USB adapter
I've just set up a pot on channel 9 as you describe. max CCW at 1.5mS and max CW at 2mS as mentioned by Showmaster. I don't where that came from because I can't find it on the manual/data sheet as downloaded from Frsky (not terse sheet that comes with the receiver). I did it before dinner and now ba...

Re: S6R PC configuration STK USB adapter
I'm the person with 2 Taranises and I spent hours trying to get the older one to bind to my S6R to no avail. As a last resort I tried the newer one and it bound perfectly. I had a quick look inside the older one and found the RF board to be DH16V2 and then others with similar problems found the same...

Re: SPort device updating
Mike, my version of Companion (ver 2.0.16) fell over when I tried to use the transmitter simulator. The earlier version didn't and neither does ver 2.0.17 which I have now. I assumed that was the reason for the update which appeared very shortly after 2.0.16.

Updating Taranis Firmware
I'm tying to upate the firmware on my fairly old Taranis which is currently running version 1.0.01 dated 2013-07-23 but I can't get either Companion9x or OpenTXCompanion (which I downloaded today) to communicate with the firmware. I can read and write to the microCD to save my model memories so my P...

Re: FlySky (Turnigy) module use.
I'm not Geoff, but I can tell you that the FS-TM002 module has worked perfectly with My Taranis for both the v912 and v929 since July. I previously used the module in my FlySky 9x with equal success. Nice thing with Taranis is to put triple rates on any of the 3 pos switches. Just a minor preferenc...

Re: Ailerons not responding equally to stick movement
I had a whole series of high end 15 year old servos all fail due to bad caps. I take it the capacitors were electrolytic types rather than Tantalum capacitors? Actually, tantalum capacitors are electrolytic in that they are polarised. They are usually solid with sintered electrodes and are very rel...

I have a WLToys V911 helicopter I fly indoors over the winter. These are supplied with crude transmitters that use the FlySky protocol but I wanted to use my Taranis so I bought this module: http://www.aliexpress.com/item/Free-shipping-by-china-post-1pcs-Flysky-FS-2-4G-upgrade-transmitter-module-Ant...

Lets hope they're cheaper than JR/Graupner is or was ?. I owned a JR/Graupner MC-12 around 8 years ago.......after buying the basic 4Ch Tx off a mate. Re: Taranis charge circuit
Thanks Kevin. I eventually sorted out my Phoenix sim connection though the need to change to 'Trainer' mode threw me for a while. I've got my Taranis working again, too. I replaced a 100k resistor I displaced in the process of changing the MOSFET and it works fine now. I also have a spare Taranis no...

Spare main board would be nice The ones HK sell for the Turnigy 9Xr are only about 7$. Unfortunately they don't fit the 9x which would solve the reverse battery burn-out my friend experienced on his.

Thanks for that. I also came up with a (poor) solution but not as elegant as yours. Couldn't the trims affect the ...

Thanks. I was just wondering if you'd gone to a 2S LiPo. Unfortunately your video won't play for me and just returns the message that it's 'Private'. Didn't know there was an option fr YouTube videos to be private.

I used a large lump of brass, mounted on a long rod and heated on the gas cooker hob as a soldering iron to make up sub C packs this way! Mike. Nothing wrong with soldering like that. I worked for GEC in the early 60s and the guys soldering telephone exchange racks used gas ring heated irons for al...

Re: Replacement Battery For FrSky Taranis
Mike, I soldered directly to the cells - something I have done many times before. I make most of the battery packs for my models in this way. I lightly rough the surface to be soldered up with a Dremel and grind stone then solder with a 4mm tip on a 50W temperature controlled soldering iron using l...

Re: New Taranis Owner - Battery Charger Q
I measured my supplied charger as 12.05 volts off load. Mike. Yes, but is that really a smooth DC? I bet it's as rough as a badger's backside with 100Hz ripple :) So who knows what your meter is reading? If I measured with my old AVO 8 moving coil meter on DC it'd probably be different from the rea...

Re: New Taranis Owner - Battery Charger Q
From my own somewhat fraught experience I would suggest only charging the battery separately from the transmitter. I've always been a bit anal about battery operated equipment and I like to know how much energy I've stored when I recharge a battery. It isn't possible using the supplied charger and u...

The tip sizes that I find work well with most SMD devices is either 0.5mm or 1mm. Anything bigger is asking for trouble. I've given up! My very good soldering iron is 50 years old and was fine for the electronics I was working with before SMD became common. The days of octal and B9A valve bases, al...

Re: Simple Mods for Taranis
The only problem with simple knobs instead of sliders is that you don't know where they're set. The ones on the Mux 3030/4040 are prefect for me. You can tell be feel exactly how much flap or whatever you've applied and there's a handy stop you can set for known intermediate positions. The Taranis o...

a good magnifier, a thin tip and some patience that's all you need ;) :D If you weren't in Germany I'd drag you into my workshop to demonstrate  I'm trying to glue the resistor in place with a tiny spot of adhesive so it won't move (hopefully!). I'm a pinch hold flyer and I always use a tray (or the tray adaptor with my Mux 3030). Re: Taranis charge circuit
If you look back to where I replaced the P channel MOSFET Q3 you'll see that in my clumsiness I dislodged R54, a 100k resistor which goes between Gate and Source (in fact it's the only connection to the Source). Well I've bodged in a 'normal' 100k resistor and now it all appears to work. At least it...
