Re: Coollvse OLED issue

Thanks. Yes, it was only the last .hex MikeB supplied that (initially) wouldn't update due to the chip ID being wrong (and recommending using -F to overcome this!). Odd how, after resetting the fuses, it didn't throw this error. Of course, I don't know what the fuses were initially.

Re: Coollvse OLED issue

Re-flash one more time, and now it all works AND I can download the eeprom - hoorah!
Many thanks again.

Re: Coollvse OLED issue

Darn, thought it was all a bit too good to be true. Now it will download the eeprom without errors, but eepe then just sits there with the endless whirling blue doughnut of Windows 10, not displaying anything. I shall leave it to whirl overnight... perhaps it's thinking...

Re: Coollvse OLED issue

Right, everyone hold their breath... it has all started working! I just re-flashed with MikeB's last offering for the umpteenth time, the module goes into 'fast flash' when I press 'bind' in MULTI, and I've even bound a FRSkyD and DSM2 receiver! Many, many thanks for your enthusiastic and thoughtful...

Re: Coollvse OLED issue

Yes - although I think eePe is just launching avrdude, which says the chip ID is incorrect and exits (or with the -F flag downloads something eepe can't open - and irritatingly doesn't seem to save?). There's probably command-line string that will get avrdude to download & save it. But it's odd ...

Re: Coollvse OLED issue

Y1 is in a metal can and only has two connections, to those pins. Set Fuses to protect eeprom ha brought the screen back, great! Can't download eeprom - it gives a chip ID error, or if I override, it says the data is corrupt.

Re: Coollvse OLED issue

Interesting, just tried flashing with that last .hex from MikeB again, and this time it didn't need -F. Completed without error.

But the screen is now dead...

Re: Coollvse OLED issue

Oh dear. It downloads, but I get error 'File may be corrupted, old or from a different system. You might need to update eePe'. (eePe' reports it is the latest version 422). This doesn't give me an option to save what it has downloaded. Oh, and I could only get this firmware to flash using the -F fla...

Re: Coollvse OLED issue

That's what I originally thought; so my writing is correct (ppm out to module ppm in). Seems unlikely ER9X firmware is faulty. I know the wiring is okay, as it works with both set for PPM.

So the remaining culprit is (possibly old) firmware as supplied by Banggood on the 4in1 module?

Re: Coollvse OLED issue

Okay, more info: With module set to 0 (serial) Red LED flashes 50/50 every second = "Set to serial but nothing detected on Rx". No change when I hit 'Bind' (no surprise). I did the switch swapping suggested by Mike, so Rx0 & Tx0 from pins previously assigned to AILsw & THRsw. Assum...

Re: Coollvse OLED issue

It's set to '0' = serial. Frustrating; initially I had TX in PPM, module set to 4 (FrsSky mode), and it could bind 'conventionally' (switch TX on while holding down button), so it works okay. I even have a 3-way slide switch selecting 4,5 & 7 (= FrSky, FrSkyX & DSM2), and FrSky & DSM2 co...

Re: Coollvse OLED issue

Okay, STM32 Tx Multiprotocol module set to '0' (cppm control, I hope), FrSky mod enabled, protocol set to FrSkyV, set F8V7-II receiver to bind and power up, press for a bit option 'Bind'.... and no binding. I appreciate that binding can be, well, a bind at the best of times, so is there any simple w...

Re: Coollvse OLED issue

Fantastic! No more funny pixels! Thankyou very much indeed for that, that's great.

I've bunged a 4066 inline with the USBASP lines (switching off when the USBASP is unpowered) - I'll see how this goes.
Hope to find some time to test the CPPM & telemetry this weekend.

Re: Coollvse OLED issue

Yes, it all moves on so quickly. My brother is still using the Graupner MC24 transmitter he bought about 20 years ago! I don't find pots very useful, so have set up a 3-way switch (with a voltage divider on the centre contact) as P1, really useful for electric soarer throttle. I will probably just f...

Re: Coollvse OLED issue

And the bowl of petunias goes to the punter who can guess whether the 'Keeps Resetting' problem went away, when I disconnected the, er, Reset pin of the MOSI interface (Embarrassed Emoji). Re: Coollvse OLED issue

Ah... another thing occurs to me. I have 'cleverly' fitted a USB to MISO/MOSI interface in my Tx, so I can just plug it in. I found that if I left all the programming pins connected to this interface, it was very unhappy when just switched on normally (nothing connected to the USB input). This unhap...

Re: Coollvse OLED issue

Okay - new .hex works. Give me a bit of time to confirm/deny the CPPM/RxTx stuff works, but I can confirm: - the column, two pixels wide, is now visible down the LHS of the screen instead of the RHS. It has moved! Progress! Occasionally when it switches on, the OLED briefly flashes a 'white noise' s...

Re: Coollvse OLED issue

If so, it's going to be a lot easier to use ELEsw & GEAsw to substitute for THRsw & AILsw. Is there any sense in which ER9X considers THR to always be T-cut, or am I right in thinking any switch can map to any switch function?

And I'll ask - although I appreciate the warning about non-standard hardware from jhsa - Given that this is in a mini case, I'm not using some of the control inputs. Tx & Rx would be really helpful!! (I could then control my 4in1 Multiprotocol RF board, and get Telemetry data*). Any chance pins ...

Re: Coollvse OLED issue

Good news! This version works! Clearly a more recent version, lots of fun stuff to explore.

Okay, being a complete bore, it still has the pixels lit down the right hand edge... and I can't find 'Rotate' as an option in the display menu!

(Eee, asking for the world, me... I do apologise)

Well so far the only firmware which works with this board (and it's connections) is the one supplied with it, and who knows what the devs did to it to get it working on this cut-down board.

Re: Coollvse OLED issue

Oh, and having done a bit more Googling, I fear that 'SSD1306' is a rather generic specification, and therefore that .pdf may have nothing to do with the OLED supplied - sorry about that. This page https://der-frickler.net/technik/9xown has some interesting links, although I couldn't identify the OL...
